Lesson Transcript

Hello everybody. Welcome back to NorwegianClass101.com. This is Anette and today, we are looking at 10 Reasons to Learn a language. Let’s get started.
1. Det er et vakkert språk! "It's a beautiful language!"
I hope you think Norwegian sounds beautiful.
2. For å snakke med norske venner "to chat with Norwegian friends"
"Being able to speak Norwegian is good for speaking with Norwegian friends."
You should practice your Norwegian with your Norwegian friends every day if you want to get fluent.
3. For å oversette "to do translations"
Jeg lærer språk for å kunne oversette. "I learn languages to be able to do translations."
The Norwegian word oversette actually means over put. So maybe that makes it easier to remember.
4. For å se på filmer uten teksting "to watch movies without subtitles"
"I am now able to watch Norwegian movies without subtitles and still understand a lot."
It is very nice to have subtitles in the same language as the movie you are actually watching. Then, you can listen and read at the same time. That’s what I prefer to do.
5. For å bo i Norge "to live in Norway"
"I am learning Norwegian on the Internet to be able to live in Norway in the future."
It’s great that you are learning with us here at NorwegianClass101.com, if you want to live in Norway in the future, then hopefully we can get there together.
6. For å forstå sangtekster "to understand song lyrics"
"I like Norwegian folk music and am learning Norwegian to understand the song lyrics."
A lot of the modern songs made in Norway these days are all in English. So, if you want to practice your Norwegian, folkeviser is a good alternative.
7. For å få nye venner "to make new friends"
"When I speak Norwegian, it is easier for me to get Norwegian friends."
Especially if you are interested in working in Norway, most companies would require that you can understand and speak Norwegian.
8. For å kunne snakke med norsk familie på telefonen "to be able to speak with Norwegian relatives on the phone"
"I have Norwegian family in Norway and speak to them in Norwegian when I am speaking to them on the phone."
On the other hand, there are so many technological options out there for you. So, you might as well use Skype or Facebook, anything. You can reach your Norwegian relatives really easily these days.
9. For å forhandle med norske selskaper "to do business with Norwegian companies"
"My company is doing business with Norwegian companies, and therefore, I am learning Norwegian."
10. For å ta en master i Norge "to go to a graduate school in Norway"
"University is free in Norway, so I am learning Norwegian to be able to go to graduate school at the University of Oslo."
University is free even if you are not a Norwegian citizen. So if you are looking for a place to get a cheap degree, Norway… And for that, you should study more with us at NorwegianClass101.com
Is studying Norwegian your hobby? I have a lot of hobbies and studying languages can be a lot of fun. So yeah, why not. Why not learn a new language?
Okay everybody. That’s all for now. You’ve been watching 10 Reasons to Learn a Language. Thank you. Vi ses sen, ha det bra.
