| Hi everybody, this is Anette from NorwegianClass101.com. Today, we are going to look at Top 10 Sad Words in Norwegian. So let’s get started. |
| 1. Opprørt "upset" |
| Du gjør meg opprørt! "You make me upset!" |
| I am not a person that gets upset that easily. So this is probably not a phrase I would use but if somebody around you makes you upset, then you might want to use this phrase. |
| 2. A skade "to hurt" |
| Du må passe på å ikke skade deg på trening. "You must take care not to hurt yourself during practice." |
| Jeg skadet meg når jeg spilte fotball i fjor. “I hurt myself when I played soccer last year.” |
| Yeah, actually I broke my ankle a couple of months ago playing soccer. So yeah, you better be careful when you are practicing sports. |
| 3. Ensom "lonely" |
| Jeg er ensom. "I am lonely." |
| In my case moving abroad was a bit lonely in the beginning but when you move to a new place, you also make a lot of new friends. So, sometimes you got to be lonely in order to, I guess, motivate yourself to go out there and try something new, maybe. |
| Jeg var ensom da jeg flyttet hjemmefra. “I was lonely when I moved away from home.” |
| 4. Trist "sad" |
| Er du trist? "Are you sad?" |
| Dette TV-showet gjør meg trist. “This TV show is making me sad.” |
| Yeah recently I am watching this American drama called This Is Us and it always makes me so sad, yeah. It’s kind of embarrassing but I always start to cry watching that show. |
| 5. Å gråte "to cry" |
| Jeg gråter veldig sjeldent av filmer. "I rarely cry from movies." |
| Well, I just admitted that this drama is making me cry. So I guess this doesn’t apply to me. How about you? |
| 6. Demotivert "demotivated" |
| Kollegaen min føler seg demotivert. "My colleague feels demotivated." |
| Well at least this one should be easy to remember since it's almost exactly the same as in English and you can use it quite often as well if you feel a little bit demotivated. So yeah, go ahead and use this phrase. |
| “My client is making me demotivated.” Klient min gjør meg demotivert. |
| Yeah if you are working and you are dealing with tough clients, it might be seriously demotivating. |
| 7. Skuffet "disappointed" |
| Jeg er skuffet over oppførselen din. "I am disappointed with your behavior." |
| Okay. So this is a phrase that’s often used in English as well. |
| Like, “I am not angry. I am just very disappointed.” Jeg er ikke sint, bare skuffet. |
| You can use this in Norwegian as well. |
| 8. Ulykkelig "unhappy" |
| Hun er ulykkelig. "She is unhappy." |
| There is a slight nuance difference between the English and the Norwegian word. I think ulykkelig is if you are unhappy over a long period of time, then you can say ulykkelig. If you want to say she is just a bit unhappy, you can say - Hun er ikke så glad, “she is not that happy,” for instance. |
| 9. Håpløst "hopeless" |
| Dette er helt håpløst. "This is hopeless." |
| You can also say Dette er håpløst. With the helt in there, it’s kind of like saying totally in English. So this is totally hopeless but both are fine to use. |
| 10. Forferdelig "horrible" |
| Boken var forferdelig mørk. "The book was horribly dark." |
| Hans bøker er forferdelig mørke. “His books are horribly dark.” |
| And actually they are making quite a lot of movies out of his books. So yeah, you should check that out. |
