Hi everybody, this is Anette from norwegianclass101.com, today, we are looking at Top 10 Words You Must Know for the Restaurant.
Let’s get started.
1. Kelner. "waiter"
Kan du spørre etter kelneren? "Can you ask for the waiter?"
2. Servitrise. "waitress"
Servitrisen har mye å gjøre. "The waitress has a lot to do."
When you want to call the waiter or waitress, you can say,
Unnskyld, “excuse me?”
3. Meny. "menu"
Kan vi få en til meny. "Can we have another menu."
So Norway doesn’t have that many traditional dishes as some other countries. So it’s very common to find a wide variety of restaurants from different countries. So you can find Indian food, Mexican food, Chinese food. Basically anything you want.
4. Å bestille. "to order".
Vi kan bestille "We're ready to order."
5. Vann. "water"
Kan jeg få et glass vann er du snill "Can I have a glass of water, please?"
Norwegian water is the best in the world. That’s why you have for instance VOSS Water which is crazily expensive. You don’t really need to order expensive water while you are in Norway. You can just get regular tap water and it will be better than what you can get anywhere else.
6. Dessert. "dessert"
Har du plass til dessert? "Do you have room for dessert?"
In Norwegian, we have an expression - dessertmage, which literally means, the dessert stomach or in other words, there is always room for dessert. In Norway, people really like sjokoladekake, chocolate cake. There are also a lot of different types of traditional Norwegian desserts like krumkake or marengs. Um, yeah, you should look it up if you want to have some good sweets while you are in Norway.
7. Kokk. "chef"
Jeg er en kokk "I'm the chef."
8. Hurtigmat. "fast food"
Hurtigmat er ikke så bra for kroppen. "Fast food isn't good for the body."
Norwegians actually love hurtigmat. One of the most popular types of food you can buy in the stores. It’s for instance, pizza called Grandiosa, which is a very boring pizza with almost nothing on it.
9. Restaurant. "restaurant"
Denne restauranten liker jeg "I like this restaurant."
In Norway, it’s not that cheap to dine out. So a lot of Norwegians just make their food at home.
10. Regning. "bill"
Kan vi få regningen er du snill? "Can we have the bill, please?"
