Hello and welcome back to Top Norwegian words. Today, we are going to look at 20 Words You’ll Need for the Beach. |
1. Solbriller "sunglasses" |
Jeg glemte solbrillene mine på toalettet! "I forgot my sunglasses in the toilet!" |
2. Strand "beach" |
På sommeren elsker jeg å ligge på stranda og sole meg. "In the summer, I love lying on the beach and tan." |
3. Svømming "swimming" |
Min sønn synes svømming er veldig gøy. "My son thinks swimming is a lot of fun." |
Who doesn’t love to swim. |
4. Sol "sun" |
I dag skinner sola! "Today the sun is shining!" |
5. Palmetre "palm tree" |
I Spania finnes det mange palmetrær siden det er varmt. "In Spain, there are a lot of palm trees as it is warm." |
6. Skjell "seashell" |
På stranda var det mange fine skjell. "There were many nice seashells at the beach." |
7. Badedrakt "swimsuit" |
Kan du legge badedrakten min i veska? "Can you put my swimsuit in the bag?" |
And of course, now-a-days, it’s very common to wear a bikini. Bikini. |
8. Hav "ocean" |
Havet er veldig stort. "The ocean is very large." |
You might also hear the word sjø, which means “sea”. |
9. Livvakt "lifeguard" |
Livvakten passer på alle de som svømmer i havet. "The lifeguard is watching out for everyone who is swimming in the sea." |
10. Is "ice cream" |
Kan jeg få en til is? "Can I have another ice cream?" |
11. Strandhåndkle "beach towel" |
Dette er det nye, store strandhåndkleet jeg har kjøpt meg. "This is the new, big beach towel I have bought." |
12. Strandstol "beach chair" |
Kan du spørre han mannen om vi kan leie disse strandstolene? "Can you ask that man if we can rent these beach chairs?" |
13. Sandslott "sandcastle" |
Barna bygger et sandslott. "The children are building a sandcastle." |
14. Kjøleboks "cooler" |
Vi bør ta med grillmaten i en kjøleboks. "We should bring the barbecue food in a cooler." |
15. Tidevann "tide" |
Vi bør gå til standa når det er lavvann. "We should go to the beach when the tide is low." |
So lavvann actually means “low tide” and Tidevann is just the general expression. |
16. Brunfarge "tan" |
Jeg har fått en fin brunfarge mens jeg var på ferie. "I have gotten a nice tan while I was on holiday." |
17. Snorkling "snorkelling" |
I Australia snorklet jeg mye. "In Australia, I often went snorkelling." |
18. Sandaler "flip-flop" |
Ikke glem å ta med sandalene. "Do not forget to bring the flip-flops." |
Actually in Norwegian, sandaler can mean both sandals and flip-flops. |
19. Solkrem "sunscreen" |
Jeg bruker en solkrem som har solfaktor 30. "I use a sunscreen with SPF 30." |
20. Hatt "hat" |
Mamma pleier å ha på hatt når hun er på stranda. "My mom usually puts on a hat when she is at the beach." |
In Norway, we have the song about hats. It goes… ? |
