Hi everyone! Iโ€™m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
Weโ€™ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that youโ€™ll use in real conversations.
Today, weโ€™ll learn conversational phrases about occupations. After watching this video, youโ€™ll be able to talk about your job and ask what somebody does for a living.
Now, letโ€™s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue:
Hva jobber du med?
Jeg er en kunstner.
Listen to it again. Now, with the English translation:
Hva jobber du med?
โ€œWhat do you do?โ€
Jeg er en kunstner.
โ€œIโ€™m an artist.โ€
First of all, you need to learn how to say โ€œWhat do you do?โ€
That's: Hva jobber du med?
Listen to it again: Hva jobber du med?, Hva jobber du med?
This Norwegian sentence literally translates into โ€œWhat are you working on/what is your job?,โ€ but it means โ€œWhat do you do?โ€ in English.
Now, how do you answer this question?
This is the pattern youโ€™ll need:
Jeg er en [your occupation].
โ€œIโ€™m a/an [your occupation].โ€
For example:
โ€œIโ€™m an artist.โ€
Jeg er en kunstner., Jeg er en kunstner.
