| In the last lesson, we learned how to use the verb å skulle which means "to go" in Norwegian. |
| In this lesson, we will continue our series dedicated to very common Norwegian verbs. |
| The second verb in our series is å gjøre, which means "to do." |
| Imagine someone asks you Hva gjør du? |
| That means "What are you doing?" |
| So if you are doing your homework, for example, you will say in Norwegian Jeg gjør leksene mine. |
| [slowly] Jeg gjør leksene mine. |
| So let’s break down this answer. |
| First we had- |
| Jeg gjør which is "I am doing." |
| It is the present form of the verb å gjøre, which is "to do" in infinitive. |
| Next was leksene which is the noun for "homework" in the plural form with the plural definite article "ne". |
| Finally we had mine which is the possessive pronoun “my" in English. |
| Note that in Norwegian, you can use the present form to say that you are doing nothing right now. |
| For example if someone asks you what you are doing, and you are doing nothing, you can tell them Jeg gjør ingenting! which literally means "I am doing nothing!" Here we are using the present form. |
| Let’s look at some other questions with which we can use the verb å gjøre. There aren’t a lot of these, but that doesn’t mean you won’t use them a lot. |
| Remember å skulle from the previous lesson? This time we will use it along with å gjøre to form the question Hva skal vi gjøre? which means “What are we going to do?” |

| As you might remember, to direct the question at someone else, all you do is change the pronoun. To ask someone “What are you going to do?” you simply switch vi with du in the previous sentence. |
| Hva skal du gjøre? |
| [slowly] Hva skal du gjøre? |
| Finally, let’s look at how to ask if someone is busy at the moment. To do this you have to place the verb å gjøre first in the sentence. So it will look like this - gjør du noe nå? |
| [slowly] gjør du noe nå? |
| Literally this translates as “are you doing anything now?” Noe means “something” or “anything,” and nå means “now.” |
| Now it’s time for Nora’s Insights. |
| In Norwegian, we often say hva gjør du i kveld? that means “What are you doing tonight?” |
| For example, if you want to go out with a friend tonight, you can ask this question to see if they are available. It will sound very natural - Hva gjør du i kveld? |
